My Favorite 5 Seconds of Summer Songs and Why

First, sorry that this post is a little bit later in the day than usual. The One Direction concert was last night and I didn't get home until really late and I had a bunch of errands to run today and I was so tired. I will talk about the concert more in a couple of blog posts because the 5SOS concert is Friday the 31st and I will combine the two concerts in a blog post.

This blog post is in excitement of the 5SOS concert. 5SOS is one of my favorite bands ever so I know this is going to be hard to pick out my favorite songs. And they've only released one album! They have a couple of EPs too, but one album! That's how much I love these songs!

*Note: In no order!

My Favorite 5 Seconds of Summer Songs and Why

1. She's Kinda Hot (She's Kinda Hot; 2015): This song is literally my new favorite song. It's honestly such a good song and it's such an anthem for everybody. Michael put it best, by saying that this song is for everybody who has ever thought that they suck and to let them know that they don't suck. That's honestly what this song is and it's awesome. Plus, it's the kind of music that 5sos wants to be making and that makes me so incredibly happy. (Click here for more ranting about this song.) I cannot wait to hear it live.

2. If You Don't Know (Don't Stop EP; 2014): I feel like this song is very under appreciated. It's such a good song and so well written that it really should be one of their singles. However, it was released on their Don't Stop EP, which, as you will soon find out, is my favorite. Their Don't Stop EP wasn't released on Spotify, and it's really hard to find in stores, so the songs on it are not as well known. That's a shame because all of them are really really really good and are my favorites. This song is one of them. It's well written and executed so it deserves to be here.

3. Rejects (Don't Stop EP; 2014): This song is the definition of teen angst and that makes me so happy! I'm all about that teen angst and this song makes me happy, so fuck yes. I'm down. Sign me up.

4. Try Hard (Don't Stop EP; 2014): This song was my favorite of theirs when they still hadn't released an album, and I was glad they re-released it. It made me very happy and I still love the song. A lot.

5. Wrapped Around Your Finger (Don't Stop EP; 2014): My friend Lucy once said that this song reminded her of me (and my future relationship). That just makes me really happy and I literally teared up when she told me that. Because of that this song is one of my favorites.

6. Unpredictable (Somewhere New EP; 2012): This song was released when they were literally like 15 and 16. And, it's better than music that some adults release today. That's saying a lot. It has great lyrics and a great tune. That's all that really needs to be said.

7. Wherever You Are (Released on Youtube; 2013):  I like this song just because it was released for the fans. They literally released it just because everyone wanted new music and they wanted to give it to us. That's pretty cool that a band would do that. Plus, it's a good song.

8. Disconnected (She Looks So Perfect EP; 2014): This song is my favorite song of theirs that isn't on their album. The live version is perfect and is always on literally every playlist I make. Plus, all my friends and I jam out to Mikey's guitar solo in the live version. Plus, the lyrics are so cute and well written. Also, Alex Gaskarth wrote the song with them and sings the backing vocals in this. Real tears.

9. End Up Here (5 Seconds of Summer; 2014): Probably my favorite song off of their album. This song they wrote with Alex from All Time Low, which is like my worlds colliding. Plus, this song has references to Livin' On a Prayer by Bon Jovi which I think you guys know how much I love that song, so that makes it the most perfect song in the world basically. Also, Mikey sings the chorus so I die.

10. English Love Affair (5 Seconds of Summer; 2014): This song is just my dance song. Whenever I want to dance I play this song. Seriously. It's so good. Plus, this song is like basically the equivalent to a winky face. So there's that.

11. Good Girls (5 Seconds of Summer; 2014): Such a good song. This song has been my jam since I found a shitty version that someone recorded at a concert in 2012. True story. So glad that they released this song on their album. Plus, their music video is great and I love it. Good girls are bad girls that haven't been caught. ;)

12. Kiss Me Kiss Me (5 Seconds of Summer; 2014): This song is just about living up those teenage years, which is basically what I live by. Everyday. This song is pretty pop, but has the guitar that I love. Anyway, I love this song, so that's why it's here.

13. Long Way Home (5 Seconds of Summer; 2014): This song is so cute. It literally makes my heart hurt. It's everything that I've ever wanted to happen. Plus, they wrote it with Alex Gaskarth from All Time Low, so that makes me internally cry all day. Plus, my boy Mikey wrote this song with Ashton too, so it already makes it better. However, not only are these lyrics amazing and the song great live, but the music is well played and well executed.

14. Mrs All American (5 Seconds of Summer; 2014): My second favorite song of their album. I jam to this at least twice a week. The beginning of this song makes me dance in the first few notes and the rest of the song keeps me dancing. I'm dancing while writing this actually. Plus, Mikey and Cal wrote this song, so I'm so there.

15. Never Be (5 Seconds of Summer; 2014): This song has a great message that I love so much. And the lyrics of this song are so great and so true. I just really really like this song. It makes me want to belt it out with wind blowing my hair everywhere in a long gown on a cliff. You know, like the music videos.

16. Voodoo Doll (5 Seconds of Summer; 2014): My favorite version of this song is a Youtube one called One Mic, One Take. It's acoustic and it's just really really good. Plus, they all look so different then they do now. This song really showcases their amazing vocals, and that Youtube video showcases them even more. Had to put this song in their just for that video. Click here for the video!

17. Social Casualty (5 Seconds of Summer; 2014): This song makes me smile. That's about it. It's not my favorite, but I like it more than other songs. (But I love all their songs, let's be real.) Anyway, I thought I should at least mention it in this post because it's a pretty good song. Plus, there's some teen angst in there and I'm all about that.

My Favorite One Direction Songs and Why

In two days, I will be attending the One Direction concert in Minneapolis. I am very very excited and in celebration of that I'm writing this blog post! One Direction was a favorite band of mine since middle school. They aren't really my favorite band anymore, I like them still, but I just like other bands more. Anyway, I am still lucky enough to go to the concert and I am very excited!

*Note: Not in any order!

My Favorite One Direction Songs and Why

1. Moments (Up All Night; 2012): This is probably in my top 3 One Direction songs. It's on their first album, so they are still trying to find their sound and what kind of music they want to be known for, but this song is good. It's really good. It's a classic pop ballad, but I LOVE IT. This song will probably always be one of my favorites.

2. What Makes You Beautiful (Up All Night; 2012): A classic. This song can come on the radio and I will automatically start singing along. Doesn't matter where I am or who I am with. This song can always make me dance and always make me smile.

3. I Would (Take Me Home; 2012): This song makes me so happy. They released the album Take Me Home in the fall of 2012 and it came out right before I went on a family ski trip to Colorado. My cousin and I spent the entire week blasting this album and singing along. We even made some hilarious lyric videos to Rock Me and She's Not Afraid that I still have to this day.

4. She's Not Afraid (Take Me Home; 2012): This song is probs my favorite off of Take Me Home, which is saying something because Take Me Home is probably my favorite One Direction album as a whole. This song just makes me happy, like all the other songs I talk about do, but this one reminds me of Colorado and my cousins and I love it.

5. Alive (Midnight Memories; 2013): This song reminds me of She's Not Afraid on Take Me Home, but like an upgrade, kind of. Don't get me wrong, She's Not Afraid is amazing, but this song is too. It's kind of different than anything else they had made at this point and you can tell they are starting to find their sound.

6. Does He Know? (Midnight Memories; 2013): Great song. This is a mix between Alive and She's Not Afraid, so of course I love this song. A lot. You can always count on me loving this song and the day I stop is the day I die.

7. Happily (Midnight Memories; 2013): Harry Styles wrote this song, and me, being obsessed with him when this album came out, I immediately fell in love. It wasn't until almost a year after it was released that I listened to this song for the song and actually liked it. It's a great song and very well executed.

8. Why Don't We Go There (Midnight Memories; 2013): I really like this song. It's more of a upbeat ballad then just an upbeat song. I don't know if that made any sense, but I really really really love this song. It makes me extremely happy.

9. Strong (Midnight Memories; 2013): This is my friend Sam's favorite song off this album, and she is usually the one that I go to One Direction concerts with. Anyway, I really like this song because it reminds me of Sam. And I love Sam.

10. Don't Forget Where You Belong (Midnight Memories; 2013): I like this song because it talks about home. I believe that home will always welcome you with open arms. Home never remembers your mistakes and Home doesn't pay attention to your flaws and focuses on who you are. We all belong somewhere, and that somewhere is going to become our home. And whenever we leave out home, home will always welcome us back. However, the home that we grew up in will always welcome us back, and I think that is what this song is talking about.

11. Through the Dark (Midnight Memories; 2013): I really love this song too. It's another one of those pop ballads and it makes me happy. It also had such good vocals in it that it's hard to not love this song. Those boys truly have great voices and this song showcases that.

12. Act My Age (Four; 2014): Favorite song off of Four, hands down. (Girl Almighty is a close second though). This song just makes me dance. Whenever I can't handle doing homework or sitting any longer I blast this song and just dance. It's like 3 minutes long, but those 3 minutes of dancing get out enough energy to help me get through sitting for hours more. Plus, the intro to this song though.

13. Change Your Ticket (Four; 2014): This is Lilly's favorite song off of Four, so it reminds me of her. She would always play this song and dance along to it, so now when it plays I think of her and it makes me happy. Plus, who doesn't love Lilly?

14. Where Do Broken Hearts Go (Four; 2014): This is my friend Lucy's favorite song off of Four, so it reminds me of her. It makes her happy when it plays, so it makes me happy. Plus, Lucy and I dance like idiots to this song and it's a fucking blast.

15. Girl Almighty (Four; 2014): A close second to Act My Age. This song makes me want to dance and it's so upbeat and lively and it makes me so happy. Plus, it's different then a lot of their other songs and that's cool.

Song Spotlight: She's Kinda Hot by 5 Seconds of Summer

I know I just did a Song Spotlight, but 5 Seconds of Summer (which is one of my all time favorite bands) released a new song and I'm in love. It actually is one of my favorite songs in a really long time. I'm not just saying that because I love 5sos; I actually genuinely love this song. A lot. So it's a Song Spotlight!

She's Kinda Hot

My girlfriend's bitchin' cause I always sleep in
She's always screaming when she's calling her friends
She's kinda hot though
Yeah, she's kinda hot though
(Just an itty bitty little bit hot)

My shrink is telling me I've got crazy dreams
She's also saying I've got low self-esteem
She's kinda hot though
Yeah, she's kinda hot though
(Just a little bit a little bit hot)

She put me on meds
She won't get out of my head
She's kinda hot though
(one, two, three)

My friends left college cause it felt like a job
His mum and dad both think he's a slob
He's got a shot though (No, not really)
Yeah, he's got a shot though (No, not really)

When you've got bigger plans
That no one else understands
You've got a shot though
(Oh my, that's a big plan you got there)

They say we're losers and we're alright with that
We are the leaders of the not coming backs
But we're alright though
Yeah, were alright though

We are the kinds and the queens of the new broken scene
Yeah, we're alright though
(uno, dos, tres, cuatro)

Sometimes I'm feeling like I'm going insane
My neighbor told me I've got bad brains
But I'm alright though (We're alright though)
Yeah, we'll be alright though (We're alright though)

Cause we're the kings and the queens of the new broken scene
And we're alright though
(One, two, three, four)

They say we're losers but we're alright with that
We are the leaders of the not coming backs
But we're alright though (We're alright though)
Yeah, we're alright though (We're alright though)

We are the kings and the queens of the new broken scene
Yeah, we're alright though (We're gonna be okay)

Na na na na na na na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na na
But we're alright though

Na na na na na na na na na na
Yeah, we're alright though

Na na na na na na na na na na
We are the kinds and the queens of the new broken scene
Yeah, we're alright though

Why?

When I first heard the name of this song I have to admit I was not really that excited. Sure, I was excited because 5sos was releasing new music, but, like, a whole song about how a girl is kinda hot? I was sure that it was going to be good: musically. However, I live for the lyrics, and I was kind of disappointed. However, I was freaking blown out of my mind. These are some of the best lyrics in a 5sos song and some of the best lyrics, period. It's all about empowering everybody who has ever felt like they just aren't good enough or that there is something wrong with them. It shows them that everything is going to be okay and that they are alright. It's like a punch in the face to everyone who has ever called them losers or cowards (because they weren't coming back). It's for the misfits and the losers, the dropouts, the insane ones. It's for us. I love that. I fucking love that more than anything.

The little side notes that they are saying after lines are amazing. It's such a 5sos thing to do and I think it shows their personalities, but also it's just funny.

I also love the ending of the song were they start playing out of rhythm. It's almost like they are trying to stay humble because, let's be honest here, they have no problem playing together.

Also, this song is catchy af. That's all. You will hear people singing this for the next year. I promise.

Finally, the band. I love 5sos. A lot. That's no secret. But it's the same love that I have for All Time Low and The Maine. I'm just also in love with one of the members (hey, hey, Michael, hit me up). I think 5sos is extremely talented and they make good music. 5sos also has bonded me with some people that will be my friends for life. It's crazy how music can do that because it's like not even something you can hold. It's an abstract thing. But it's made me best friends for life and I owe my relationships with those people to 5sos and their music. I'm proud of them for their success so far and for this song. This is more pop-punk then anything they've ever made and I think that's the sound they are going for, and I'm proud they are getting to where they want to be and making the music they want to make. I love them and their music a lot.

Songs For Him // Mixtape #2

Another mixtape, yay! This mixtape is called Songs For Him. There's not a name behind the 'him,' but more of like a type of person. These are songs to my future love, my future life, my future, in general. These are songs to him. They all kind of all over the place. I love music (as we all know), so I like to think that my future Him will love music as well, so these are like songs that I like to think that we'll sing (badly on my part) together or he'll sing to me, or we will blast on road trips together, or play at our wedding.

This is going to be a fun blog post for me because it's going to also explore one of my other favorite things: writing. I love writing almost as much as I love music. That's why this blog is so great for me, because it combines two of my favorite things. The explanations to why I chose these songs are going to be more fanciful and if everything goes the way I think it will, they will be more about the feelings behind the songs and my imaginations that the song inspires.

I put these songs in an order, so that if you would listen to the songs in the order I put them in, then it would kind of tell the story I'm trying to tell.

Songs For Him

1. Freak Like Me: Hollywood Ending
We probably won't meet in high school, as least not in class. The reason being that there are no boys in my classes. (A downside of an all-girls school.) However, I think that we are going to meet when we both know who we are. We will already know who we are and where we are going. Sure, we've still got some learning to do, but we will kind of know. Plus, I kind of think we are both going to be freaks, you know? We're going to like old rock bands and follow pop-punk bands around the country, or maybe you will be in a pop-punk band going around the country. I'll wear dark lipstick and heavy eyeliner, and you'll dye your hair. We'll be freaks, in our own sense.

2. Kids In The Dark: All Time Low
After we become friends, like best friends. I believe that the best relationships are when you are in love with your best friend, so hopefully, we will be best friends. At some point, when we are still best friends, I think one of us will be in a relationship. Maybe not serious, or maybe not even labeled a relationship, but something, okay? Maybe it will be you, maybe it will be me. However, that thing is going to come to an end. It's going to one of us, but the other will be there to make them feel better. And, during that time we are going to start to fall for each other. They left us alone and then we came together. And we lit up the dark.

3. Shut Up and Dance: Walk The Moon
Still in the falling stage, we are going to be spending a lot of time together. And a lot of time confused. We won't really know what is happening. Everything is new and different and nothing like we've experienced before. Sure, I've probably written about it or tried to express love in a math equation (because I love writing and I love math, get over it). You've probably written songs about it if you are in a band, or you've heard stories about my best friend Lilly and her fairytale romance. Or maybe, we've heard about it from Audrey, who is a long time friend of mine that you've grown to love because she is always around, stealing me away from you and jamming out to music with us in our living room. Audrey probably tells the story of falling in love in high school with her girlfriend. Maybe they aren't together anymore, but their love was real. I don't know where we've heard the stories, but we are feeling it. We are confused, but that doesn't stop us from falling even more. That doesn't stop us from dancing to our favorite songs or our bad habit of staying up to late and listening and discussing the harmonies in our favorite All Time Low songs and also discussing fate and destiny.

4. I Wanna Be Yours: Arctic Monkeys
One day, out of the blue, it's going to happen. One of us is going to confess our feelings for the other, and the other will confess them back. I don't know who will be first because I believe that we are going to be alike in some ways. We are both going to be outspoken and passionate and like a thunderstorm, loud and shocking, and bright, but sometimes dark. But we will be different, you will do things without thinking sometimes, while I'll try to plan them out to the minute, my anxiety taking over. Anyway, it will happen. One of us will probably blurt it out when we are grocery shopping together or when we are driving late at night or early in the morning. One of us will just say it: "I wanna be yours."

5. Somewhere In Neverland: All Time Low
We will probably try to run away at least once. We will be so captivated that we will one day just decide to do it. We will try, given that we are both determined and will follow through with just about anything. We will probably drive for a couple of days and then realize that it isn't the same. It isn't the same without our friends. Your bandmates who always wake you up to early, Audrey who introduces us to new music, Lilly and her exciting stories from her comedy shows. We need home. We need our small little apartment in the middle of a city that we moved into together after we graduated college less than a year ago. Before we knew what we were going to turn into. So, we will go home. But it won't be sad. Because home is a dream for us. Home is amazing. Sure, it's not where we grew up. It's not my snow-filled streets and my freezing cold bedroom, or your humidity filled familiar air or your old Spiderman comforter, but it's home. Because home is with each other.

6. I Must Be Dreaming: The Maine
I think you'll sing this song to me at some point, or maybe try to sing it to me. I don't know, if you are in a band you'll sing, if you aren't then you'll try. But you'll have the most beautiful voice ever just because you're you. The Maine is one of my most favorite bands ever and this song is one I've always dreamed of someone singing to me. You are going to tell me that you are must be dreaming because you are so happy and I must be dreaming too, because I never thought that real life could be this fucking happy.

7. She's Not Afraid: One Direction
We run into a problem, or I do at least. I'm scared of falling love. I'm scared that someday you aren't going to love me anymore and I will be destroyed. It doesn't make sense to anybody, because I'm not scared of a lot of things. I like the thrill of adrenaline. I love Halloween. Scary movies make me jump and shout, but I love the feeling. I like kissing in the dark because sometimes you accidentally kiss my nose or my eye, and it's always a surprise what you'll kiss the next time. I'm not afraid of the attention I get when I dress the way I do or say the things I say, but the one thing I so damn afraid of is falling in love.

8. Angel With A Shotgun: The Cab
You'll find out that I'm scared. Probably, when you finally realize that you are in love with me. You don't know how to tell me that you would do anything for me. You we never really good with words, which is weird considering you write lyrics. I guess they are different when they are in a song, which I actually understand. So, you find a song--this one--that will covey to me that you will do anything.

9. I'll Be: Edwin McCain
When I first heard this song, I wanted to to be my wedding song. I told that to you after you sang Angel With A Shotgun, or your band sang it. In concert. And embarrassed the hell out of me, which is really saying something because I don't get embarrassed easily. You won't listen to my request for this to be our wedding song, as I will soon find out, but you do play this song for the next two weeks before we go to bed every night, just because I said that I loved you and you said you loved me.

10. You Are In Love: Taylor Swift
The title of the song explains it. We are in love. You see the world in more color now. Shades of color you never thought you would see. It amazes you that you spent so much of your life without knowing these shades of color. I see the same colors. We wonder the same thing. It keeps up late at night, talking about how much things have changed for the better. And sometimes, when we've finally gone to bed at 4 am, you'll wake up at 5 and just tell me that you are in love. Just for good measure.

11. Kiss Me Kiss Me: 5 Seconds of Summer
We aren't teenagers anymore. In fact, we're more adults then we have ever been. But we still feel the same as we did as teenagers. We are wild and free, even though it may seem like we aren't. We still surprise each other, and we still live life to the fullest. It's a good life, and we get that. We're dreaming out loud.

12. Perfectly Out of Key: The Maine
This song just kind of describes our relationship. Not necessarily the lyrics of the song, but more just the title. We're not perfect, and we know that. We are kind of in our own little world and it's fun. We are unique and different and we have imperfections. But together, we just fit together and are perfectly our of key.

13. Starlight: Taylor Swift
We're adults now, more than ever. We both have jobs, different ones probably, or the same maybe. We could both be in bands and touring, or maybe I'm some CEO or a music producer or whatever. Who knows, but we both have responsibilities and it a lot of the time we get caught up with where we are supposed to be, what we are supposed to do, and who we are supposed to be. We forget who we are sometimes. Not at the same time, but every once in a while one of us forgets who we are and how lucky we are. Then, at the perfect time, the other calls them in sick and we spend the entire day living on the thrill and sneaking into parties, forgetting about everything we are supposed to be, and instead focus on who we actually are. It was one of these nights when we first brought up the idea of marriage. We always kind of new that we would get married someday. There's no way that either of us would let the other go. Before, however, marriage always just seemed like a lot of work. We were okay with how the way things were, so why change it? But now that we were adults, marriage was more present.

14. I Miss You: Blink-182
Every once in a while, we fight. Fighting is a natural thing to do. We've known each other for so long and we've been living together for at least a couple of years. It's only natural that we fight. It was probably about something stupid, like how you didn't wash your dishes or how I was late for dinner and forgot the call. It's weird how in the morning we can wake up together and be happy, and then by 11pm the next night, you are at your friends house sleeping on the couch and I'm screaming into your pillow because it smells like you and I miss you.

15. Stay Stay Stay: Taylor Swift
That fight was the last time that you left when we fought. From then on, you always stayed. Especially when we fought. You came back the next morning early and saw me clutching on to your pillow that was now covered in my tears. I was whimpering in my sleep, flinching at car honk from outside. Your heart broke when you saw me and you swore to yourself that you would never leave me again. So, from then on, whenever we would get into fights, we would try to talk it out and if we couldn't right then, then we would lay together and watch movies until we could.

16. Livin' On A Prayer: Bon Jovi
This was my first favorite song. And when I was sad or broken from feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders or the hard world crushing me and destroying my thunderstorm personality, you would sing this song. Sing it loudly and dance with me around the kitchen in the moonlight. This song could always make me smile, especially when I was with you listening to it. We were together and it didn't matter what happened, because we had each other and that's enough.

17. Long Way Home: 5 Seconds of Summer
We just liked spending time together. That was the baseline of our relationship. We just like being around each other. We were always laughing and making jokes and teasing our friends, only because we knew they could take it. At this point, we are probably around mid/late 20s, and we still acted like the lovesick teenagers that we were when we first met each other after we finished high school. My parents were confused how I could spend so long with one person, because from raising me they knew that I was very indecisive, but what I guess what they didn't know was that once I made the decision, I stuck with it to the end. I was only indecisive until the decision was made. Your parents were confused how a girl could keep you away from home for so long, because you always said that home was your favorite place. You tried explaining to them that home was with me. It wasn't that my parents didn't like you, or your parents didn't like me. It was just that they we were their babies and they wanted to make sure we were okay.

18. Backseat Serenade: All Time Low
We took a trip to your homeland. For the first time, I got to see where you grew up and where you did the stupid things in high school. I got to see where you snuck out of your house, and where you told your parents that you wanted to drop out of high school because your band was going somewhere when you were only 16. I got to see what made you you and I fell in move in love with you. He was so jealous that I got to know all these things about him, that we didn't even go back home after that trip, we went right to my hometown. You got to sleep in the bed that I slept in every night for years. You got to see my school and my basement window where I snuck out in high school. I introduced you to some of my high school friends that I keep in touch with but still lived here. You met my brothers and my sister, which you have never done when we were together and not just best friends. We met each others parents when we were still friends, but since my siblings are all older, they were always gone and living their own lives. My sister looked at you with a questioning eye and then smiled and hugged you when she saw how we looked at each other. My oldest brother welcomed you immediately and started making jokes. My other brother, the one I was closest to, was harder for you to impress. He questioned your clothes and your tattoos, but when I gave him "the look," he stopped and shook your hand.

19. Disconnected: 5 Seconds of Summer
We always found ourselves losing track of time when we were with each other. We tuned out everything around and just spent time together. The only thing that we truly understood in this world was the other person. It was perfect. We could just lay in bed and talk and not even hear the doorbell or the cars rushing by outside.

20. Collide (Acoustic Version): Howie Day
You asked me to marry you when I was 26. At that point, we had known each other for 8 years and we have been together for about 5 and a half. Other people thought it was a long time to be together an not be married, but like I said, marriage just never really bothered us. It wasn't until we brought it up that one night. Ever since then, it was on both of our minds almost all the time. One night, you took me to our favorite record store and played this song for me over the loud speaker, making remember the times in high school when I dreamed of this song being sung to me. You weren't singing, because you were on one knee and asking me to marry you. I said yes, of course.

21. Wonderwall: Oasis
Remember when I said that I wanted our wedding song to be I'll Be? You didn't listen, but I was actually okay with that. I'll Be is everybody's wedding song. Instead, you had your band (without you of course) play Wonderwall for our first dance. It was perfect. We didn't care that people were staring or that probably millions of people had Wonderwall as their wedding song. After our first dance, you told me that you had a surprise for me and you sang me my parents wedding song: These Are The Days by 10,000 Maniacs. It made me cry. In fact, it made everyone cry. Audrey and Lilly were in tears, our parents were sobbing, even my brothers were trying to discreetly wipe tears away from their eyes.

22. Unpredictable: 5 Seconds of Summer
We were happy in our life together. We were making plans to move back to your home for a while and then find a place to start a family. Everything was good. No matter what happened yesterday, or what will happen tomorrow. We were happy. We still broke our plans every once in a while to run wild on the streets and be unpredictable, and it was perfect. We were the same thunderstorms that we always have been. We knew who we were apart and we knew who we were together and it was the same, which is exactly what we wanted. We were taking on the world, together. And we were ready.

To my 'Him,' I hope you're everything I've ever dreamed of. I hope that you support my dreams, and I support yours. I hope that we can love each other, while still loving ourselves. I hope we can be everything we've ever wanted to be. I really hope I didn't just jinx everything. *Knock on wood*

-Laur

"We've gotta hold on to what we've got / It doesn't make a difference if we make it or not / We've got each other and that's a lot / For love we'll give it a shot." -Livin' On A Prayer, Bon Jovi

Favorites: Mid-July 2015

I've decided that my favorites post will always be in the middle of the month because it's different and fun, and then I can do my In Recap at the end of the month and it won't be too jumbled. I'm super excited for this post, so let's go!

Note: Not in any order!

Mid July Favorites

1. Can't Feel My Face: The Weeknd
This song is pretty new, but I love it! It's been playing everywhere, and it should be. It's so good! I really really love this song. So much, that I've made a playlist on my Spotify of just The Weeknd, because I'm so obsessed with this song that his other songs are probably just as great.

2. Arctic Monkeys
Okay, who doesn't love the Arctic Monkeys? I sure do. I've listened to them for a while now, thanks to my friend Audrey, but recently I've been listening to them way more. Their album AM is so good that I listen to it on repeat, especially when I'm with Audrey. If you are looking to check out a band, then check them out!

3. Black Magic: Little Mix
If I had to describe myself in 7th grade, it would be One Direction and Little Mix. Little Mix is awesome, and so is this song! It's so catchy and I always find myself singing along to it. Plus, Little Mix is so cool. I've meet them and they are so nice and are very down-to-earth. And, they have great voices. Plus, girlbands rock!

4. Newwwwww: Playlist
I reorganized my Spotify a couple of weeks ago, and for anybody who follows me there knows that I have way too many playlists. I decided on a new organizing system, which works really well! I've put all the bands that I don't listen to as much in one folder (in alphabetical order, of course) and then I left out the ones that I listen to all the time. Plus, I made this playlist called Newwwwww where I put any new music that I'm wanting to listen to. It doesn't have to be new to the world, just new to me. I really like this because then when I'm feeling like listening to some new tunes, I can just play this playlist! Check it out here!

5. Matchbox 20
Again, who doesn't love Matchbox 20? I've rekindled my love for them this past month and its reminded me how great their music is. I don't really have much to say besides the fact that I love them and that you should check them out, so I love them and you should check them out!

6. Neon Tiger: The Killers
I just wrote a blog post about The Killers, and when I was writing it I reminded myself how much I love this song! It makes me so happy and I love it so fucking much. Yes, it was number 8 on my list, but I kind of feel like it should be more like number 2 because my appreciation has grown. Anyway, listen to this song!

7. Cool For the Summer: Demi Lovato
My girl Demi! Demi honestly seems like the coolest person ever. I admire her for being who she is and taking no shit. She just loves who she is and what she does. This song just proves that point. It's so catchy and it basically screams "fight me." I love this song. Listen to it. That's all.

8. Taylor Swift and Apple Music
I think by now, almost everyone knows about Taylor and how she stood up to Apple Music. Some people are saying that she is standing up to them because she wants more money. I'm not best friends with the T-Swiz, so maybe that is true. However, I kind don't think it's the only reason she did it, if she even did it because she wanted more money in the first place. Taylor Swift has a lot of power in the music world and her standing up will make people notice. She can speak for the smaller artists who might have stood up but nobody payed attention too. it's cool that she does that. If you want to know more, read this article from CNN.

9. Maine(ly) Sleeping: Playlist
I was up at my cabin for a little under two weeks and this is what put me to bed every night. I love the Maine, as mention before, and this playlist is amazing. It's basically just their slow songs that put me into slumber. Check it out here!

10. Grow Up and Be Kids: The Cab
The Cab is great. I will someday do a blog post about them. However, I just recently rediscovered this song and now I can't stop listening to it. Listen to it and if you love it even just a fraction of how much I love it, then I'll be happy.

Song Spotlight: The Freshmen by The Verve Pipe

The first time I ever heard this song I was in the car driving to my cabin with my mom and my brother. We were playing a "Guess This Song" game, and my mom played this song. Jack (my brother) immediately knew it, but I didn't, even though they insisted I did. Turns out, I really didn't. Anyway, I fell in love with the song and it's still only of my favorites, which is why it's the next Song Spotlight!

The Freshmen

When I was young I knew everything
And she, a punk who rarely ever took advice
Now I'm guilt-stricken, sobbin' with my head on the floor
Stopped a baby's breathe and a shoe full of rice, no

Pre-Chorus
Can't be held responsible
She was touchin' her face
I won't be held responsible
She fell in love in the first place

Chorus
For the life of me
I can not remember
What made us think that we were wise and we'd never compromise
For the life of me
I can not believe we'd ever die
For these sins
We were merely freshmen

My best friend took a week's vacation to forget her
His girl took a week's worth of valium and slept
And now he's guilt-stricken, sobbin' with his head on the floor
Thinks about her now and how he never really wept he said

Pre-Chorus

Chorus

We tried to wash our hands of all of this
We'd never talk of our lacking relationships
And how we're guilt-stricken sobbin' with our heads on the floor
We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip we'd say

Pre-Chorus

Chorus x2

We were merely freshmen
We were only freshmen

Why?

Usually, when I write why I love songs so much in these Song Spotlights, I usually write about the band and the lyrics. Yes, one of the reasons I love this song is the lyrics, but I don't really know the Verve Pipe that much. Yes, I know who they are, but I don't really listen to them besides this song. Not for any reason, I just haven't really sat down and listened to a CD of theirs. Anyway, I love these lyrics. They are so raw and beautiful. They talk about real life situations that happen and things that not a lot of people talk about, like suicide and mistakes that will change your life forever. This song kind of makes me want to cry when I hear it because you can almost hear the pain in the song. It's really beautiful.
The other reason why I love this song so much is because of my brothers. As I said earlier, I was with my brother Jack when I first heard this song. It was probably almost two years ago, but he still plays it to this day and I can hear him sing along with it. The other reason is that when my oldest brother was a senior in high school when he would blast this song all the time. My mom told me that and it makes me smile that my brother Jack can love this song so much just like my other brother.
Also, I like that this song is so diverse. Jack's music taste is pretty different than my oldest brother's music taste, so it's cool that they can both like the same song so much. Also, Jack doesn't like a lot of my music, but Max (the oldest brother) does. And, my music taste encompasses both of their music tastes. It's cool how this song is an overlapping factor.

Top Ten The Killers Songs

Hey friends! The Killers are awesome. Like if we were going to measure them on the level of awesomeness and compare them to me, I'm a sixteen year old girl who wears a lot of black and they are a fucking record-selling band. Oh, wait. That's real life. This post seems long overdue because they are THE KILLERS and I listen to them a lot, so I figure I would give you my Top Ten The Killers songs! Enjoy!

Note: This was difficult. Like always. I'm terrible at decisions and this did not help. Just saying. Hope you enjoy this because it took me hours. Seriously. I picked what I thought were going to be my ten songs one day and then I came back the next day and picked a whole new set of ten songs. And the same for the next day. It was a lot, but I finally did it! Again, enjoy!

Top Ten The Killers Songs

10. Change Your Mind (Hot Fuss; 2004): This songs makes me smile, like every other song on this list to be honest. It's catchy and the type of song that makes me feel like I should sneak out of the house at 3 am and drive around the city playing this song. That's how it makes me feel and I fucking love it.

9. All These Things That I've Done (Hot Fuss; 2004): Personally, I don't really like the beginning echo-y sound of this song, but after that's over it quickly makes me realize why it makes this list. It makes me dance and it's one of those songs that pretty much everybody knows the words too so you can play it and people will be able to dance even if they don't even know who The Killers are.

8. Neon Tiger (Day & Age; 2008): I first found this song when I needed some cool lyrics to write in glow paint at a party (long story). I googled something along the lines of 'cool party lyrics' or 'the best indie party songs' and I found this one. It's not a very popular song by the Killers but it's fucking awesome.

7. Read My Mind (Sam's Town; 2006): This is kind of like All These Things That I've Done (only in popularity). It's probably the third most popular The Killers song, so you could probably play this and people could sing along. I also really, really love these lyrics. Like, a lot.

6. Mr. Brightside (Hot Fuss; 2004): By far, this is the most popular The Killers song. And for a reason too. This song is so fucking good. Like its off the charts good. Right away from the first line you get hooked and the song makes you want to do nothing but sing along with your friends.

5. A Matter of Time (Battle Born; 2012): Such a good song. This should be up higher on my list I think, but I couldn't move any of the songs above this because I love them too. This song is catchy and fast and makes you want to dance. And, it has great lyrics.

4. Runaways (Battle Born; 2012): This song has lyrics that tell a story. Not just a message, sure it tells a message too, but it also tells a story. It has a story that I love and that I think a lot of people can understand firsthand. Although I haven't gotten married yet or had a kid, I like to think I can relate to some of these lyrics.

3. This Is Your Life (Day & Age; 2008): I love this song. Duh, Laura, of course you do. That's why it's on this list in the number 3 spot. Anyway... This song tells a story too and it's just really catchy. It makes me happy, that's why I love it.

2. Smile Like You Mean It (Hot Fuss; 2004): Okay, story time, I listened to this song the first day that I wrote this and I really like it, so it made the list. Then, the next day, at my first day at my new job, this song came on the radio. It was meant to be. I came home and immediately put this on the top of my life. This song comforted me when I wasn't really feeling so comfortable and I will always love it for that. Plus, it's also just a great song.

1. When You Were Young (Sam's Town; 2006): This song is so good. I've mentioned in my mixtape I made for my best friend Lilly, that this song reminds me of my friends and what life is going to be like when we are older and looking back when we were young. I love it for that part, but it's also just a really fucking good song. It's the shit.

Bonus: Human (Day & Age; 2008): I thought it was completely 100% wrong to not have Human somewhere on this list/post, so I decided to include it as a bonus. It's not number 1, but it's not my least favorite song. However, the lyrics to this song are ones that one of my best friends sings to me and signs her letters with, so it reminds me of her.

-Laur

"Run neon tiger there's a lot on your mind / They'll strategize and maim you, but don't you let them tame you / You're far too pure and bold / To suffer to strain of the hand and its hold." -Neon Tiger, The Killers

New Music Showcase #1

As promised, I am starting to write about some new music! Great music is being released everyday and we should listen to it! I've started a new playlist on my Spotify account (Laura Sorenson or lauraloveslarry) and I've been putting in new songs that I want to listen too. Right now, it is just new releases because I'm writing this blog post, but after this I think it's going to be any music that I want to start listening to. Anyway, all of these songs that are in this post have been released in June or July because I didn't do a new music showcase in June or anything.

One of the main principles that I have when writing this blog is to never write about songs that I don't like or songs that I won't listen to. I understand that not everybody listens to the same music at me, which is a good thing because then I wouldn't be able to expand my horizons. However, there are some songs that I just don't like. There is a difference between not liking a song or an artist and being ignorant of that song or artist. You don't have to like it, but you need to accept it because it is music. And, sometimes, the band or singer may not be my favorite ever, but I still like the song. Sometimes knowing who the artist is can make you love a song more and other times you might have to separate the artist and the song. The point of this is that there are a lot of new songs out there that are probably not going to be listed on this list because I don't personally like them or maybe because I just missed them when looking for new music. Anyway, let's go on!

Note: I've decided to put a * by the songs that I like the most. As stated before, all of the songs I talk about I like, but not all of them I love, so the songs marked are the ones I like more than the others.

Fourth of July Playlist

Happy Fourth of July! If you are an American, this playlist is perfect for whatever you end up doing on the forth of July, and if you aren't, this playlist can be great just for summer weekends or if you are trying to think like Americans do maybe? Who knows. Anyway, this is a playlist, not a mixtape so there will be no explanations why I put each song on here. However, every song on this playlist is at least a song I like. I didn't want to make a playlist that was just songs that have something to do with America and not even like the songs. A lot of the songs have titles that have something to do with America, which just makes everything more fun. However, I added some songs at the end that I felt went with the vibe of the playlist and balanced everything out. I also made this a Spotify playlist on my account (Laura Sorenson, or lauraloveslarry) because I know I will be listening to it, and I will put the link here.
