Music To Me

What is it about music? What about music makes me get excited when I hear a new song that I love? What makes me get butterflies when an old favorite starts playing? Is it the feelings that comes along with it? The memories? The lyrics? The passion? The singer? The band? What is it?

Music to me is like light. Music brings light to my darkness. It's so big and so unexplored (and sometimes taken for granted). Music is like an undying love for your best friend or your brother. To me, music is like my long-lost sister or brother. Music is everything to me. Music is what gets me through hard times and what makes me smile. Music fills the silence.

I can name one of the first songs I've heard and asked to be played on repeat (Yellow by Coldplay). I can name the song that I listened to on the bus every morning for eight years (Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi). I can name my first favorite boy band (Jonas Brothers). My first favorite Christmas Song (Jingle Bell Rock). My mom's favorite band (Dave Matthews Band). My aunt's first concert (Paul McCartney). Every single concert I've been to (Glee, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, One Direction (twice), Vans Warped Tour (where I saw the band that gets me through everything: The Maine), Walk the Moon, All Time Low, and tomorrow, the Rolling Stones). I can tell you the first song that I heard from Bowling For Soup (1985), All Time Low (Running From Lions), The Beatles (I Wanna Hold Your Hand), and Nirvana (Come As You Are).

Basically, what I'm saying is that music is like the best friend that is always there for you. Music means everything to me. Music is everything to me.

Music isn't about the people who sing it (although they can factor into it), it isn't about the beat (although that can factor in to it too), it's not even about the lyrics (although I do believe they play a strong part). Music is about they way it makes you feel. It's about whether it makes you want to cry because it reminds you of a sad time or if it makes you want to dance. It's about how it makes you feel.

Recorded with Laur is a little bit of everything music related. It's a my favorite songs, it's my favorite bands and singers, it's my favorite albums, it's albums that I'll talk about that I don't even like. So, I hope you enjoy. However, the last thing I have to say is that all music is wonderful. All music is great in its own way and everyone is entitled to love any kind of music they want. They should not be ridiculed or made fun of for liking the kind of music they do. To me, music is sacred.

-Laur

"Look at the stars / Look how they shine for you." -Yellow, Coldplay
